It usually catches your attention through a pop up, alerting you in one form or another that your system is at risk, and that it might contain a number of errors. Notwithstanding the risk of downloading viruses or malware (which can happen with any program), the question remains whether a registry cleaner can actually benefit you or not. As to the first, here is what you can expect:

First, it can speed up your system. That is because a registry cleaner deletes unused registry entries, such as those left behind by a previously installed program. By deleting them, the system does not have to go through as much entries as before, and that can fix slow CU. However, the speed boost is not as noticeable on higher specs, due to the greater speed it already has.

That is why the best programs will have a continuously updated database, tested on multiple systems and setups. The algorithms they use are then refined and guided by customer feedback.

So as a final note, it should be remembered that the registry cleaner is essentially a decision making program, following certain algorithms on what it thinks you still need from your registry. A good one will let you repair registry with minimal risks, while a bad one can definitely trash your computer even further. So do not trust those pop ups and ads outright, and never be fooled by the number of errors they detect. Try to look for the least aggressive program instead, and always back up what you delete. And if you have a very high spec system, then you might be better off leaving that registry alone altogether.

The additional speed gained may not be as dramatic with a high performance computer system, because it already operates at a higher speed.

A registry cleaner can remove viruses like trojans or malware that have been unknowingly placed in registry files. These corrupt registry files can be activated when opening a certain program or application, creating a serious issue with computer performance and possibly preventing the user from accessing many files. Deleting those corrupt registries will often get rid of such problems and allow the computer to function normally. However, not all viruses insert themselves this way.

A good program will allow the user to repair files without hassle. A bad one can cause even further damage to files and even basic operations. When this happens the user may have no choice but to reinstall the operating system disk and start with a fresh installation, after cleaning the entire hard drive.

The kind of products advertised through pop up ads are not reliable and are gimmicks designed to take the user’s money. They provide little benefit to the average computer user.

Search for a program that does not randomly attack all files and that will back up any files it removes. If a computer user owns a high performance machine it may be better to leave the registry alone unless a malware file is evident.
